Walter Buse has been grappling since he first stepped onto a wrestling mat as a 13-year-old in 1997. He continued competing as a wrestler all the way through high school until he began his Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2005. In 2008, after graduating from UBC, Walter moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil where he dedicated himself to reaching the highest level of competition in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Whilst living in Brazil Walter trained and competed under Fabio Gurgel, at Alliance headquarters, from whom he would eventually receive his black belt. In May 2013, Walter founded Alliance Vancouver with his business partner and has been a full-time coach since. Today, Walter commits all of his coaching time to Alliance’s juvenile team (ages 3-13yrs). Over the years Walter has created an environment where children feel at home, safe and uplifted. By breaking down key concepts into simple lessons Walter has brought the team much competitive success, but his greatest pride has been watching the younger students build confidence, and respect as their understanding of the art grows.
